Description
Metoprolol is available as Metoprolol Succinate (ER)& Metoprolol Tartrate (IR)
Metoprolol Succinate ER is a beta-blocker that affects the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins).
Metoprolol Succinate ER is used to treat angina (chest pain) and hypertension (high blood pressure). It is also used to lower the risk of death or needing to be hospitalized for heart failure. This is coming under the Category-Antihypertensive & Anti-anginal
Metoprolol is a beta 1-selective (cardio selective) adrenergic receptor blocker. This preferential effect is not absolute, however, and at higher plasma concentrations, Metoprolol also inhibits beta 2 adrenoreceptors, chiefly located in the bronchial and vascular musculature.
In controlled clinical studies, Metoprolol has been shown to be an effective antihypertensive agent when used alone or as concomitant therapy. Also has proven effects in Angina pectoris and Myocardial Infarction.
This should be administered strictly with the prescription and advise of medical practitioners only.
