Description
FEFOMED contains Ferrous Ascorbate, equivalent to elemental iron 100 mg and Folic acid and Zinc Sulphate.Ferrous Ascorbate is a synthetic molecule of ascorbic acid and iron. Ascorbic acid enhances absorption of iron also it reduces ferric iron to ferrous iron which remains soluble even at neutral pH. Ferrous form of iron is absorbed thrice as much as ferric form of iron – the discrepancy becomes even more, when treated at higher dosage of ferric salts.
There is no dissociation of Ferrous ascorbate on entering GI Tract due to the stable chelate of Iron with Ascorbate. Also, there is no action of food inhibitors as the complex does not dissociate. Ascorbate is a reducing agent and prevents Oxidation. Thus, maintains Iron in highly soluble ferrous form.
For nearly 4 decades, studies on iron preparations have been benchmarked against Ferrous Ascorbate. Properties of Ferrous Ascorbate are thus considered as the Gold Standard in Iron therapy.
Zinc sulphate is an inorganic compound and dietary supplement. As a supplement it is used to treat zinc deficiency and to prevent the condition in those at high risk
INDICATION
Iron deficiency & Megaloblastic anemia due to pregnancy, lactation, hookworm infestations, menstrual disorders and after surgical procedures. It is also indicated in nutritional anemias.
Anemia frequently observed in old age, childhood and adolescence. Anemia associated with chronic blood loss due to piles and in chronic infections like tuberculosis, hepatic diseases, malaria and increased body need in certain physiological conditions.
PRESENTATION
FEFOMED is available as tablets. Each tablet contains- Ferrous Ascorbate equivalent to elemental iron-100mg., Folic Acid-1.5 mg and Zinc Sulphate.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
One tablet once daily.
